Why This Website?

WHY?

This was the question bombarded by many well-wishers to me. There are hundreds of websites and thousands of technocrats related to this subject. What are you going to achieve by adding one more website?—This was the sum of all questions. I shall address exactly this in this article.

Usually, the websites address the problems and solutions, DO's and DON'Ts. The question of what happens IF THIS IS NOT FOLLOWED is left unaddressed. I am going to share some incidents of such type. In some cases, consequences were funny and in others disastrous.

The Shortcut Specialist

One of the "shortcut seeker" applicators was assigned the job of painting the base of a storage tank with 100% epoxy paint with no volatile matters. Approximately hundred litres of paint was required, which was delivered to the site along with the applicator.

The "shortcut specialist" smart applicator decided to avoid the troubles of applying hundred litres of paint by brush. He simply mixed resin and hardener and POURED it on the bottom, with the hope that eventually it will spread out.

Unfortunately for him, the speed of spread, viscosity of mix, and gelling time of paint conspired against him. The POURED paint cured in a thick layer of ten to fifteen millimetres and generated huge exotherm.

The exothermic reaction was so violent that temperature sensors installed in the tank got activated, sirens started blowing, company's fire fighter along with safety director of the company rushed to the spot.

The whole commotion was indescribable. As usual, I had to visit the client personally all the way to far North East, face the music, tender the apologies, and sort out the matter.

The Human Element

Paradox of the situation is the "shortcut specialist" faced a very sad family tragedy in a short time afterwards. Despite being very angry, out of pure humanitarian approach, I couldn't take any action against him.

Next article in the series coming very soon.
